Aberbargoed V Beaufort

Aberbargoed V Beaufort

With the elements against us Aberbargoed welcomed visitors Beaufort to the village; both teams had a point to prove.

The first half kicked off and Aberbargoed wasted no time beginning their attack and were showing the visitors little mercy.  10 minutes in and Jamie Clarke made a break and secured the points by scoring in the corner; 5 -0 to the home side.  For the next twenty minutes there was good phases of play by both sides with some excellent defensive rugby being played by the home side keeping the visitors the right side of Aberbargoed’s try line. 30 minutes in and forward Lee Hagerty made a break and charged over the line under the posts leaving an easy conversation for Rhys Hagerty score line 12-0.  The second half began and Aberbargoed came forward with new vigor and determination looking sharper and more intent on scoring.  Minutes in and some lovely play and good ball handling resulted in Aberbargoed’s Alex Hope scoring his first try -this try was unconverted and the score board read 17 – 0.  A successful penalty for the visitors allowed them on the scoreboard but within minutes of the whistle the Aberbargoed backs were off again and this time Liam Matthews steamed over the try line; another conversation was added by Rhys Hagerty and the home side were in a comfortable position at 24 – 3.    Within minutes Liam added another sensational try with the conversion to come and the scoreboard read 31 – 3.  Strong running and good handling continued by the home side, although it is fair to say that Beaufort showed a lot of guts and never gave up the fight, however, a storming run by Aberbargoed’s Christopher Jenkins saw another 5 points added to the ever increasing score with the conversation adding the next 2 points 38-3.  The next period of play resulted in Aberbargoed winger Luke Kemp scoring his first try of the match, this was unconverted and left the score board at 43-3.  Liam Matthews, who was on fire, found the try line again to secure his hat trick of the game and the conversion by Christopher Jenkins gave the home side a 50 -3 lead.   Soon after, not to be left out, winger Rhys Edwards stormed over the line to plant the final try which was unconverted.  Final score 55-3.

An impressive, well thought out performance by the home side which will give confidence for the next league battle against Blaina on Saturday 22nd October.
